Saverio Tutino

Saverio Tutino was born in Milan on 7th July 1923. He studied law, however his studies were cut short by the start of the war. He participated in resistance action in Val d'Aosta and in Canavesano. After the war, he worked for the communist press as foreign correspondent in various countries of the world, but in particular Latin America. In 1975 he was involved in the birth of the newspaper La Repubblica where he worked until 1985. Currently he is cultural director of the Premio Pieve – Banca Toscana (Pieve Prize) and the Fondazione Archivio Diaristico Nazionale (National Diary Archive Foundation). He has published many books, amongst which: Gollismo e lotta operaia, L'ottobre cubano and the collection of tales La ragazza scalza for the publishing house Einaudi; Il Che in Bolivia and L'occhio del barracuda for Feltrinelli; Gli anni di Cuba, Viaggi in Somalia and Dal Cile for Mazzotta; Cycloneros for Giunti and Guevara nel tempo di Guevara for Editori Riuniti.

In 1998, together with Duccio Demetrio, he founded the Libera Università dell'Autobiografia (Open University of Autobiography) in Anghiari. In the same year in Pieve, he began publishing the twice-yearly journal Primapersona, of which he is director. In 1999 he published Il mare visto dall'isola for the publishing house Gamberetti. In 2005 Le Vicolo published his latest work Il rumore del sole.
